Foal diary

Argemone

Bay filly by Lonhro out of Romneya

I was born on 20 August 2014 at Woodlands.  My mum was a tough little race mare and was very successful in Victoria.  She was trained by Lee Freedman who also trained the great Makybe Diva.

I no longer hang out with my mum, I am growing up and have moved into the big kids barn area called the yearling barn at Oak Range.

I will be one year old on the 1st August 2015– The Horses Birthday!  So don’t forget to celebrate.

I have been having a holiday in a big paddock with my yearling friends. As you can see they are all sleeping on the grass at the moment.

I am still waiting to be given a name, so for now I’m called after my mother, which means my unofficial name is ‘Romneya 14’. I wonder what I will be called?!

My dad is Lonhro, and not only was he a very good racehorse himself, but lots of his foals have gone on to be top racehorses as well.

The horse staff feed us breakfast in the morning and then we get all day to play in the paddock until dinner time.

I get my feet trimmed every 6 weeks and I am well behaved for the farrier. Soon I will return to receive further training for my racing career.

Hello! I have a new name - Argemone - how amazing does that sound! I have yet to run my first race, but I did have my first barrier trial last year at Warwick Farm on the 18th October and guess what, I won! After my barrier trial I was sent to Twin Hills for a holiday. I got to sleep whenever I wanted, graze all day and still get my special meals morning and night. The best thing was I got to stretch my legs. I returned to Osborne park last month to start training for my first big race. I have new shoes on, my teeth have been trimmed and I am raring to go!
